Privacy Policy
Last Updated: September 14, 2026
1. Introduction
Nemantic LLC ("we," "our," or "us") operates Lound, a voice journaling app for adults aged 18 and over. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our mobile app and website.
This policy explains our data practices. Acknowledging it is separate from any optional consent we request for a particular feature or use of your information.
2. The Short Version
Here's what matters most:
- Your audio recordings are user-controlled. We use audio for transcription and do not keep replayable audio on our servers by default. If you enable audio retention, replayable recordings are saved on your device and are not replicated to Lound servers.
- Entry attachments stay in your photo library. We store references to the photos and videos you attach to entries. Image analysis in chat is a separate, optional feature that sends selected images for processing.
- We don't sell your data. Ever.
- AI features use third-party processing. OpenAI and AssemblyAI process content to provide these features. See below for how provider processing and retention work.
- You can export your data anytime in the app. It's your data.
- You can delete your account through the app.
3. Information We Collect
3.1 Account Information
When you create an account, we collect:
- Email address and name
- Profile image (if you provide one)
- Authentication data from Google or Apple (if you sign in with those services)
- Your confirmation that you are at least 18, and records of the Terms version you accepted and Privacy Policy version you acknowledged, including when you accepted them and the app version used
3.2 Your Voice Recordings and Content
As a voice journaling app, we process your voice recordings:
- Audio recordings: Sent to AssemblyAI for transcription. Lound does not keep replayable audio on our servers by default. If you enable audio retention, replayable recordings are saved on your device and are not replicated to Lound servers.
- Transcriptions: The text version of what you said, stored in our database.
- AI-generated insights: Mood assessments, themes, reflections, and personalized questions generated from your transcriptions.
- Photos and videos: If you attach media to an entry, we store only a reference to the file. Lound does not upload these entry attachments. Your photo library's own backup or sync settings are controlled by you and your device provider. Optional image analysis in chat is described separately below.
3.3 Usage Data
- How often you use the app, feature interactions, and navigation patterns
- Error reports and crash logs for debugging
- Device information (operating system, app version)
3.4 Subscription Data
- Your subscription tier (Free or Premium) and status
- Payment transactions are handled entirely by Apple (App Store) and RevenueCat. We never see your credit card details.
4. How We Handle Your Data with AI
We want to be upfront about how AI is involved in Lound. Here's exactly what happens:
4.1 Audio Transcription
Your voice recordings are sent to AssemblyAI for transcription. Lound does not keep replayable audio on our servers by default. If you enable audio retention, replayable recordings are saved on your device for later access and are not replicated to Lound servers.
4.2 AI Analysis
Your transcribed text is sent to OpenAI for analysis (mood detection, themes, insights, personalized questions). We request that generated response objects are not stored where the API supports that setting. That setting does not by itself remove all provider retention. OpenAI may retain data for abuse monitoring, legal requirements, or features with their own storage requirements, subject to its API data controls and any applicable account arrangements. See OpenAI's API data controls.
4.3 Image Analysis in Chat
You can optionally ask Lound to analyze images in the chat feature. Images are only sent to OpenAI when you explicitly request analysis each time - we always ask for your permission before sending any images. The provider retention limits described above also apply to image processing; this is not a promise of zero retention.
4.4 Model Training
Lound does not use your journal content to train its own AI models. We use provider APIs to deliver transcription and AI features. OpenAI states that API data is not used for model training by default unless a customer opts in. Provider data controls and retention are separate from model training.
5. Third-Party Services
We work with trusted services to provide Lound. Here's who has access to what:
Transcription
- AssemblyAI: Receives your audio for transcription. Privacy Policy
AI Analysis
- OpenAI: Receives your text and, when you choose image analysis in chat, selected images to provide AI features. Provider retention is described in section 4. Privacy Policy
Authentication
- Google OAuth: If you sign in with Google. Privacy Policy
- Apple ID: If you sign in with Apple. Privacy Policy
Payments
- RevenueCat: Manages subscription information. Privacy Policy
- Apple App Store: Processes all payments. We never see your credit card.
Advertising & Attribution
- Meta (Facebook): Measures which ads bring users to Lound. Attribution can involve advertising or device identifiers and app activity so we can understand which marketing works. Your recordings and journal content are never sent to Meta. Privacy Policy
Analytics & Monitoring
- PostHog: Receives app activity, account identifiers, app version, device information, and feature properties to help us improve the product. Earlier app versions may also have sent account email addresses. Privacy Policy
- Sentry: Receives error reports, technical context, and account identifiers for debugging. Privacy Policy
We also use internal monitoring tools to ensure service reliability and debug issues. Internal AI diagnostic records can include the request messages sent for processing and the responses returned, including your content, alongside technical details to investigate failures and quality issues. Authorized personnel and service providers may access relevant information for support, security, troubleshooting, and legal obligations. This operational access is not monitoring your entries or chats for emergency intervention.
Infrastructure
- DigitalOcean: Hosts our database and servers in New York City, USA. Privacy Policy
6. Cookies
The mobile app uses authentication cookies or session tokens to keep you signed in. These are separate from the website analytics and advertising cookies described below.
Our website (lound.ai) uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use our site. This sets the following cookies:
- _ga: Identifies unique visitors (expires after 2 years)
- _gid: Identifies unique visitors (expires after 24 hours)
If you visit our site through a Facebook or Instagram ad, we may set these additional cookies:
- _fbp: Facebook browser identifier (expires after 90 days)
- _fbc: Facebook click identifier (expires after 90 days)
These help us connect your app store visit to the ad you clicked, so we know which ads are effective.
7. Data Storage and Security
7.1 Where Your Data Lives
Your data is stored on servers in New York City, USA (DigitalOcean). Service providers described in this policy also process information to deliver their services.
7.2 How We Protect It
- All data is encrypted in transit using TLS/SSL
- Passwords are securely hashed
- Access to personal data is restricted to what's needed to operate the service
No system is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your data.
7.3 Data Retention
Here's how long we keep different types of data:
- Audio recordings: Not kept as replayable audio on Lound servers by default after transcription. If you enable audio retention, replayable recordings are saved on your device and are not replicated to Lound servers.
- Photos and videos: We only store references to attached media. The actual files remain in your device's photo library.
- Transcriptions and AI analysis: Kept as long as your account is active.
- Analytics and diagnostics: Can contain account and device identifiers and technical usage information. Earlier app versions may have included email addresses. Account-linked usage information is not anonymous.
Deleting your account removes your account and journal data from the active service. Deletion from service-provider systems and backups is subject to their retention processes and applicable legal requirements; contact us if you need help with a deletion request. Local files on your device, including audio saved through audio retention and photos/videos in your photo library, remain on your device unless you delete them there.
8. Your Privacy Rights
8.1 For Everyone
Regardless of where you live, you can:
- Export your data: Go to Settings > Data & Privacy > Export My Data. Download all your entries and conversations as a JSON file, or have it emailed to you.
- Delete your account: Use the "Delete Account" feature in the app. See section 7.3 for the scope of deletion.
- Ask questions: Email [email protected] anytime.
8.2 For EU/UK Users (GDPR)
If you're in the European Economic Area or UK, you have additional rights:
- Access and get copies of your personal data
- Correct inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data
- Restrict or object to certain processing
- Data portability
- Withdraw consent at any time
Legal Basis for Processing
We process your data based on:
- Contract: To provide you the journaling service you signed up for
- Legitimate interests: To improve the service and ensure security
- Consent: For optional features like marketing emails
8.3 For California Users (CCPA)
California residents have the right to:
- Know what personal information we collect and how it's used
- Request deletion of your personal information
- Opt-out of the sale of personal information (we don't sell your data)
- Not be discriminated against for exercising these rights
8.4 For Nevada Users
Nevada residents can opt-out of the sale of personal information. We don't sell your data, but if you'd like to submit a request anyway, email [email protected].
9. Important Disclosures
9.1 AI Analysis Limitations
The mood assessments, themes, and insights generated by AI may not always be accurate. This is a journaling tool, not a medical device. Please don't rely on AI-generated content for important decisions about your mental health.
10. Children's Privacy
Lound is for adults aged 18 and over. We ask users to confirm that they meet this requirement. If you believe someone under 18 has provided personal information to Lound, contact us at [email protected].
11. Legal Disclosures
We may disclose your information if required by law, such as in response to a court order or subpoena. We may also share information if we believe it's necessary to prevent harm or protect our legal rights.
12. Business Transfers
If Lound is acquired or merged with another company, your information may be transferred. We'll notify you before your data becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
13. International Data Transfers
Your data is processed in the United States and by the service providers described in this policy. Privacy laws may differ from those where you live. Contact us for information about cross-border processing and applicable safeguards.
14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we'll:
- Update the "Last Updated" date at the top
- Notify you through the app or by email for material changes
